Build the Olympic Games Village now
We all know we will have the need for a games village and it will come in 10 years’ time, so why, when faced with the greatest crisis in accommodation our community has seen, would we not build it now?

Dramatic, pivotal changes to the planning scheme and its application at all levels
Adjusting the planning scheme allows more scope to fast track new home approvals, unlock land for development, allow alternative forms of accommodation such as granny flats etc ultimately resulting in more housing supply across all price levels.

Fix cultural issues in Council
Council’s Development Services branch is in the height of a cultural battle. Years of single issue group resistance and personalised public scrutiny have contributed to council officers approaching development applications with a lens of fear.

Construction of government-owned dwellings and better use of council and state land
More supply and more affordable housing options for the community could be available if the State Government allowed residential use of their land, existing dwellings and new dwellings.

Stop penalising and instead incentivise investors to provide more rentals
More investors = more rental properties. It’s a very simple equation. Anything to support residential property investors to add more rental stock to the market supports the rental and housing crisis because above all the crisis is here because of a lack of supply.

We need to protect renters… the right way
We believe that measures need to be put in place to protect and support renters but we do not believe this should be in the form of rental caps or stricter regulations on landlords as those options will only make the situation worse for renters as residential property investors would further desert the market, leaving fewer rental properties for more people to compete for.

Education around Property Types and stages of life
By the community and decision makers truly understanding the various property types, removing assumptions and stigma and recognising the needs of members of our community may assist in providing more of the right types of property for the region as well as unlocking properties that are currently underutilised.

Moderate Airbnbs and vacant properties
Moderating Airbnb and vacant properties ensures appropriate use of dwellings so that owners of investment properties and holiday homes are providing accommodation where it is most needed for the region they are located in.
